Thank you for your continued support of Yamamasa Koyamaen's matcha.
We are writing to let you know that, starting in 2026, we will be adjusting the prices of some of our products, including matcha, Cool Green, gyokuro and sencha, and confectionery. We are truly sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, and we would like to explain the reasons behind this decision.
What is happening with matcha
In recent years, global demand for matcha has grown rapidly, driven both by matcha's popularity around the world and by the growing number of visitors to Japan who purchase matcha while they are here. As a result, the price of tencha, the raw leaf used to make matcha, has risen sharply over the past few years.
Last year, we adjusted our prices once already, in order to maintain our product quality in the face of these rising raw material costs. This year, however, tencha prices have risen even further. In addition, more and more tea leaves that would normally go into gyokuro and sencha are now being used for matcha production instead. This has reduced the overall supply of green tea leaves and pushed up their prices as well.
What we are doing
We have continued to look for ways to reduce our costs. However, it is simply not possible to absorb the full increase in the cost of raw materials and packaging on our own. To continue delivering matcha of the quality you trust, we have made the difficult decision to adjust our prices again this year.
We are sincerely sorry that this marks the second price increase in as many years. Even so, we hope you will understand that this step is necessary to protect the true taste of Uji matcha and to maintain the quality you can rely on. Putting taste first has always been at the heart of everything we do, and that will never change.
Looking ahead
Conditions in the tea market continue to change. If circumstances change further, we will do our best to keep you informed. In the meantime, we will keep working hard to supply matcha as stably as we can.
We remain committed to our own way of making matcha: growing the leaves in our own tea gardens in Uji, and carrying out every step ourselves, from processing tencha to stone-milling it into matcha. We are truly grateful for your continued support, and we hope to keep serving you for many years to come.
